Vintage!

Sometimes I forget that things are not as they always were.

Drivers License.

Years ago you did not have your picture on your license.

There were no INSTANT pics...

and you trusted people to say they were who they were.

Does that make sense?

Anyhoo....

My mom was going through some old things and found my Mamaw's license...

from the 1950's.

It was brass with the info stamped into it like a *dog tag.*

Mom mailed it to me and I now have it on my key chain!

Fun facts about South Carolina Driver's License :

It wasn’t until the 1930’s that legislation was passed requiring vehicle drivers
to obtain a driver’s license and pass a driving test to drive legally.

Anyone who was at least 12 years old could obtain a license by
completing an application and paying a $.50 fee.

In 1968, legislation passed requiring color photographs on all driver licenses.

Ironically, state law continued to allow for the issuance of a metal driver’s license to those drivers who had not been suspended or cancelled. These metal licenses resembled a military ‘dog tag’ and included all information on a regular driver’s license except the photograph. A hand-held numbering machine ‘engraved’ the driver’s information into the metal license.

I just thought those facts were cool!

P.S. I saw on license my Mamaw was 5' 5" and weighed 110 lbs.

Geesh!

P.S.S. I googled the apartments where she lived in the 1950's.

They are still there!

Fun!

Random

We got ice in NC yesterday.

The roads are covered so I guess we'll be home bound today.

I may take down the Christmas Cards hanging in my kitchen....

FINALLY

Last week at preschool my oldest granddaughter had show and tell day.

She was to bring something from another country.

A friend of hers lived in China for a few years
and brought her a dress from there.

So, EC dressed in her China dress and also took Mulan with her to school.

Her mom did her hair like Mulan's too!

Hubs made CAN CAN Soup last night!

One of our favorites...especially on a cold night.

P.S. This was originally titled Creamy Chicken Vegetable Chowder,
but my sister always called it CAN CAN because you use so many cans!

It's a family favorite!

Recipe for Can Can Soup:

2 cups cooked, chopped chicken
1 can Cream of Potato Soup
1 can Cream of Chicken Soup
1(11 oz) can Mexican Corn (undrained)
1 (4.5 oz) jar sliced mushrooms (undrained)
1 (4 oz) can chopped, green chilies (undrained)
1 1/2 cups milk
1 cup chicken broth
1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese

Combine first eight ingredients in large Dutch Oven (pot), stirring well. Cook over medium heat five to eight minutes or until thoroughly heated. Remove from heat and add cheese, stirring until cheese melts.
We also sprinkle cheese on top of each bowl of soup.
Yields: 9 cups...I always double.
YUMMY!

(If you use canned chicken or a rotisserie chicken you an use canned broth and make this soup in minutes! I almost always cook my own chicken but use canned broth for a little more flavor. You can use low sodium broth and soup if you want to cut down on all the sodium that canned items have.)

Ok, told you this was random.

What's on your RANDOM list?

Saturday!

We packed a lot into our day Saturday!

Hubs and I began the day at one of our favorite breakfast places.....

Cracker Barrell!

Then we drove a couple of hours to Ikea! It wasn't a very successful trip.
They were out of what I wanted.
UGH!

My parents eat lunch every Saturday at QDoba,
so we met them for their Saturday ritual!
They are celebrating an anniversary this week!
Happy anniversary you two!

After lunch we had the PRIVILEGE of visiting with Meryle Garr.

Meryle has been in my life for as long as I remember and is the wife of the pastor who married us.

She is almost 90 years old and means the world to me.

A trip for hubs to the Queen City is not complete without a visit to

We had not seen our grandgirls since Christmas!
So, we went to play a while and keep them while their parents went out.
Their Bitty Babies have pajamas that match theirs.....and they love that!

It was a busy, good Saturday.
What did YOU do?

Lance and Cycling

Hubs is a cyclist.

My son-in-law is a cyclist.

So, of course, we have always had an interest in Lance Armstrong.

We have bought his jerseys, and his Livestrong bracelets.

We've watched him in all seven Tour de France races.

We also watched his interview with Oprah last night.

I won't go into how we (I) feel about things

And can really only speak for myself here.

BUT

I was struck last night by ONE thing Lance said.

He said

" I will start my answer by saying that this is too late. It's too late for probably most people, and that's my fault."

It's not too late for

Jesus
Lance,
Jesus.

It is NEVER too late.

He will forgive you.

You really don't need US to forgive you....though, somehow I do.

SNOW?????

Forecast of three inches of snow this afternoon in our neck of the woods.

People,

In North Carolina when they call for snow

we SHUT DOWN.

I mean it.

SHUT

DOWN!

Seriously.

The schools have ALREADY cancelled all after school activities.

Just at the mere MENTION of snow.

I love it.

I love the hype

and the news reports.

And the crazy people who buy milk and bread.

Even if it doesn't happen.

I don't love the cold, but, if it has to be cold

Let It Snow!

I know people who get lots of snow laugh at us.

I get that.

My daughter lived in Pittsburgh, Pa for a while.

They would go everywhere with a foot of snow.

BUT

Seriously

Their roads were cleaned better with a foot of snow
than ours are with one inch.

We just don't have the equipment here to do that.

So laugh along with us you snow people.

Bring on the flurries!

Tuesday Thoughts

I saw this on another blog.
After reading it a few times, I realized how true it is.

One of the twins, (C), has been sick this week.
Poor baby.

He was suppose to go to The Children's Museum with us Sunday.
But, he had a fever so his brother,T, and Baby B went with us.
(Blurry, but the best I could do because they won't slow down.)
T seemed lost without his twin.

Baby B really DID have a good time but you can't tell it in this pic!!

The girls have been sick too.
I haven't seen them since Christmas because they've had the flu.
Nonny didn't want it.
I sure do miss those girls though!

I've been trying to clean out and organize.
I'm sure lots of us do that every January.
When I tackle a closet or a drawer I always ask myself why in the WORLD I keep some of the things I keep.
Ridiculous.
Here's to an uncluttered, organized house in 2013.

What are YOUR thoughts this Tuesday?

Five Question Friday

1. Flu mist? Flu shot? Or take your chances?

Flu Shot.

For years I worked in the office of a christian school. We all were required to get the flu shot. Every year after I got it I got sick. I ached all over and felt like I had the flu. I do not have an egg allergy.....apparently the vaccine is grown in an egg shell????...Don't quote me on that. Sooooo, I quit getting the shot when I came to work with hubby!

Anyway, when DIL was pregnant with the twins, we all had to get the flu shot to be able to visit them in the NICU. Two years now I've gotten the shot and I've had no flu like symptoms....or the flu.

Win. Win.

Luck?? :)

2. Do your kids have iPads? What are some good educational apps? Price?

My kids are grown but yep, they have iPads...I do too and like it a lot!

3. What are your favorite boy/girl baby names?

I love names....weird?

Noone really likes the ones I like, but....

Girl: Trillabelle and Patterson

Boy: Hobbs and Oliver.

4. If an apple a day keeps the doctor away, which apple do you choose to eat? (red/green, gala, red delicious...)

I like a hard, crisp apple.

My favorite is a North Carolina mountain apple!

Of the grocery store variety I like Granny Smith (green) and Pink Lady(red).

5. What is your favorite place to escape to for peace & quiet, to think? Why?

At home in front of my fireplace. It is warm and comfortable and I feel *safe* there.

How about YOU?
Share your answers with me!

Word of the Year 2013

Intentional

So, I finally chose my WORD for 2013.

A word that describes what I want to focus on.

Intentional means *done with purpose.*

When I was raising my children, I didn't use intentional parenting.

Shoot, I was lucky to get through the day with three children under four!

I love that so many young moms today have access to information

that allows them to parent *intentionally.*

What a gift!

I want to be intentional with all areas of my life.

I believe everything happens for a reason.

Therefore, I want to have a purpose for what I do.

I want to be intentional with my marriage and my family.

I want to be intentional with my daily devotions and Bible reading.

I want to be intentional with putting dates on my calendar

and with cleaning my house.

I especially want to be intentional with relationships.

Did YOU choose a word this year?

If you did, what did you choose?

If not, what WOULD you choose?

Here's to an intentional 2013!

Love Being A Nonny

Happy January!

If you are new here, or even if you're not,

Here's an update on why I Love Being a Nonny!

BABY C (twin to T)

C is 13 months old and is older than his twin by a few minutes.

He is the happiest boy ever! Smiles ALL OVER his face!

C loves to climb and swing and blow you kisses!

He is a walker now too!

Baby T (twin to C)

T is 13 months old and is a twin brother to C.

He is such a happy boy too and ADORES his mommy!

T is practically running when he walks now and says lots of words!

Baby B

I HAVE to stop calling Baby B a baby! :(

He is 25 months old now and is about to be a big brother!

B loves to watch movies and can talk like nobody's business!

He reminds me so much of his daddy as an early talker!

This boy goes non stop from morning until night

and is about the friendliest little boy ever!

TWINSX2

All my picture folders for these twins say:

Twinsx2... so years from now I will know this is the second set of twins.

They are 24 weeks and growing.

We are praying they stay PUT for at least eight more weeks!
Baby B is the big brother to this set of twins!

EC

EC just turned five.

Like most five year old girls, she loves princesses and baby dolls!

She is VERY observant and is a thinker...

you can almost SEE her wheels turning!

EC loves her preschool and going on play dates!

A

A just turned three.

She is the little...but sometimes big, sister to EC.

She too LOVES her baby dolls....I mean LOVES!

Really, she doesn't want to do anything else.

She would rather NOT go to preschool.

What she loves: her room. her bed. her baby dolls. her milk.

And that's the TRUTH! :)

I'm going to try to be a more consistent blogger in 2013 because I print these posts out into a book each year and it's important to me to document their days and years. I don't do a good job having pictures printed any more now that everything has gone digital, so this is pretty much it for me!

Can you tell I LOVE BEING A NONNY?

Just wondering. :)
