First Day Of Preschool

*Edited to add:*

She had a great day!

My oldest granddaughter starts preschool today. It's her very first experience in school. I remember how hard that was as a mom. I imagine this is how my daughter must feel this morning:

"She started school this morning,
And she seemed so very small.
As I walked there beside her
In the Preschool hall.

And as she took her place beside
the others in the class,
I realized how all too soon
Those first few years can pass.

Remembering, I saw her as
She first learned how to walk.
The words that we alone made out
When she began to talk.

This little girl so much absorbed
In learning how to write.
It seems as though she must have grown
To girlhood overnight.

My eyes were blurred as hastily
I brushed the tears away
Lest by some word or sign of mine

I mar her first big day

Oh how I longed to stay with her

And keep her by the hand
To lead her through the places
That she couldn't understand.

And something closely kin to fear
Was mingled with my pride.
I knew she would no longer be
A baby by my side.

But she must have her chance to live,
To work her problems out,
The privilege to grow and learn
What life is all about.

And I must share my little girl
With friends and work and play;
She's not a baby anymore --
She's in Preschool today."

Pray for BOTH of my girls today.
The BIG one and the LITTLE one.

This made me cry! Did you write it or where did you find it? So sweet. My baby's preschool begins today too. She went to preschool last year, but it's still hard. She is definitely no longer a baby! I am praying for BOTH of your girls! The years pass way too quickly!

I started reading this as I was getting my 4 yr old ready for her 5th day of preschool this morning. I had to stop because I felt myself tearing up! Even though this is her 3rd week and thankfully she loves it, it's not gotten any easier on mom & dad grasping hold of the fact that she's not a little baby anymore! Thanks for sharing such a great poem! :)

I love reading you blog and wanted to introduce myself to you. I'm also a "nonna"...an italian grandmother...oh yes I am!
Wondering how you got to be called Nonny?
Also could you share with me where and what label your grad daughter's Christmas 2009 (with the reindeers) came from? I love it and just love the way she's dressed in all of your pictures. Both you babies are just precious!
I have an 19 month old grand daughter Callahan. I purchase most of her clothes and would love to get this outfit for her Christmas.
Thanks so much. Look forward to hearing from you.

You made the tears fall for me...
Brings back such emotions.
When sweetpea was dropped off for her first day at daycare (1 year old) and she held her little doll and looked around with big eyes....my daughter said the scene is etched in her heart forever! 600 miles away, Nanny had a lump in her throat all day!

I hope your sweet girls had a wonderful day!
